This is the place where we stay |

Gangtey is in west Bhutan. It's the ground where the Tibet black neck cranes come for winter season. We hope we would be able to snap good pics of them later.
Took some pictures along the way.
We stopped for lunch, and this place is the mid point of Trongsa and Gangtey where people stop for lunch or tea break. What make here special is that the King had been here before. The shop has specially decorated a seat for the Highness.
But well the guy sitting there is not the King but my guide. haha
Yes. It's him. |
Looking at this photo that hangs in the main hall, I could deeply feel how much the local people respect their King.
Gangtey seems to be colder than Bumthang, the strong howling wind and strong sun make us wanna stay indoor. The snow on the ground had not melted.
Upon reaching Gangtey, we visited a monastery where the high monk was a reincarnated from his previous life. He has many overseas followers and they have donated money for renovation and building of monastery and nunnery.
From the building of most Bhutan building, you could feel the strong infusion of the religion and local culture through their wood sculpture and architectural design. After enjoying the beautiful monastery, it's also an enjoyment to sit down, relax and enjoy the sun in such a cold weather. Priceless.
We moved on to our next destination, Gangtey nature reserve. It's a 4 km hike at a altitude of 2900m. It's also a wet land area where the black neck crane fly from Tibet for winter. Maybe it's the starting of the season, there's only a few that we could see. I only managed to take a few pics of them from far, didn't bring my zoom lens, Crap!!
And yes.. It's him again |

Catching the last light before night fall. |
The weather was getting colder as night fall. I had to setup the fireplace so that I would have a cosy good sleep.
It's gonna to be a long ride back to Para tomorrow, around 6 hours. I was excited because we would be climbing the Tiger's Nest which hangs on a precipitous cliff at 3,120 metres. Will I make it or break it? The saga continues ...
