Sapa, located in Lao Cai province, about 350 km south west of Hanoi is Hanoi city and it has the Vietnam’s highest peak, Fansipan, 3143m above sea level. There's overnight train from Hanoi city to Lao Cai. Trains depart from Hanoi train station and arrive around 530 am in the morning. There are quite a few companies operating and tickets can be bought online. Upon reaching Lao Cai railway station, you need to catch a taxi which will bring you to Sapa. The journey takes about 50 minutes. You can also get a agency to help arrange a package for you. We have engage a local agency to help out, our train is "Oriental Express" and depart at 930pm. The train's interior look pretty new and clean. Bed is soft, air-con is cold except that the bed is abit short for me. The overall train ride is quite enjoyable, listening to the train running on the railway. Toilet are close before the train move off and only open up for usage after reaching a certain point of the ride.
