Siem Reap

This is my first time to Siem Reap, one of the cities in Cambodia and am eager to visit one of the world wonders, Angkor Wat.

We stayed at the Royal Angkor Resort which is less than 15 mins car ride from the airport. The resort looks pretty new and nicely furnished. It has a combination of the Khmer decoration with modern feel. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. Our room are spacious, bright and clean. Beds are soft and comfortable. There's also a big swimming pool! Cool... We tried the spa and massage, which was pretty good too.

The Angkor Ruins

We set off at 8am to visit the Angkor ruins. We purchased a one day pass as we are having a short stay. Weather in Siem Reap is humid and hot, weather seem cloudy and going to rain today. This make the weather cooling but yet increase the humidity.

The ruins in Angkor comprise of several temples which include the world famous "Angkor Wat". These temples are mainly build by King Jayavarman VII in the twelfth century.

The map below gives an overview on where the runis are located.

Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is the first Hindu temple build in the early twelfth century by King Jayavarman VII. Angkor mean "City" and Wat mean "Temple". Therefore it means "Temple City".

Most part of the temple still remains intact over the years, much of the craving on on stone walls are still clearing visible.

Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom which mean "Great City" was build in the late twelfth century by King Jayavarman VII. At the center of the city is Jayavarman's state temple, the Bayon, have some unique design, the 4 stones faces on each side of the towers.

Similar to the other temples, it has beautiful stone craving on the walls, displaying the fine craftsmanship in the olden days. Impressive.

There's are many tourists and we have to wait for a good time to take photos. This place is quite big and I spent nearly an hour taking photos at this temple.

IMG_7444 IMG_7442 IMG_7371 IMG_7353 IMG_7342 Look at how these stones are being stack together. IMG_7343 IMG_7422_DSC7189

A day pass is definitely not enough for those who want to have a better understanding of the history of each temple as there are many temples around this region. You can also hire a English speaking guide to bring you around.

These ruins are a good place for photo shooting. Each temple has its own style and you can take time to explore for different ways to capture the best shot. Now I understand why the tomb raider is filmed here. I have missed out taking the sunrise or sunset shoot due to the time constraint. There are many tourists, and you would need to be quick in your action to capture the best angle in double quick time.

Visiting the 7 wonders in the world is always my dream and Angkor Wat is my first. Looking at each heavy sandstone being stack together, forming up the building structure, the nicely stone craving, these people had constructed such a massive construction without the helps of technology which is consider impossible in their era.  It really hard to imagine how these is being done.

Angkor has also fall under the UNESCO which help to conserve these magnificent architecture. Hope these temple will once again bring back it glory.

One wonder down and 6 more to go, hope I would fulfill my dream within my lifetime. :)

We decide to try out one of the activity recommended by lonely planet. A 3 hours leisure horse ride from this place call "Happy Ranch". The horse ride will brings us out of the tourist spot to where the local will stay, their primary school, the padi field and a small temple ruins.

This is the first time for me riding a horse and learned many new things.
- What's the different between western saddle and English saddle.
- Siting posture
- Controlling the horse, pulling the horse too hard will cause it to be uncomfortable, leaving it too loose will make it hard to control the horse.
- Use your legs to slightly kick the horse stomach area to make it move faster.

Riding a horse can be fun too, but controlling a horse is not easy as it seem to be. Need much practice and also depends on the horse character. My horse was not in a good mood today, it try to run away and also turn around and bite the horse that my friend is riding. Fortunately everything was fine and return back safety.

The padi field under the gentle morning sun ray and cool fresh air make the journey quite enjoyable. These students were shouting "Hello" when we ride by their school and everyone is waving at us. It is quite disappointing as our camera were unable to capture clear sharp pics due to the horse movement.

Like any other night market, there's plenty of souvenirs selling here, selling from the common key-chain, bags, oil painting to big Buddha sculpture.

Siem Reap, a place where I would visit again.
Will always remember these lovely people, rich culture of the Angkor ruins.

See you again Angkor. :)

Singapore Kin Kin Ban Mian

Have tried this in Malaysia and this is now always available in Singapore. I have posted in one of my post and the noodle was fantastic. When this shop was open in Singapore, there are long queues everyday. Therefore I have waited for the queue to cool down before trying this. I went there on a weekday and there is totally no queue. This shop is located in Macpherson road. Well, it might be a central location but have to walk around 5 mins from MRT station. Menu are available on the wall and you can place order by writing on the form they have provided on the table. I ordered the signature ban mian, can't wait to add in their dry chilli. Ordered their signature fish-ball soup too as according to my friend, this is nice. Serving was fast and in the noodle and fish ball soup are brought in front of us. For me, the noodle is not as nice compare to the one that I had in KL. The noodle is quite hard, it feel as the noodle is not totally cook. This is not ca

Ubin First Stop Restaurant

It was my mum’s birthday and we had an impromptu dinner at Ubin First Stop Restaurant.   Located in Changi Village, it’s a place whereby me and my family go quite often as its pretty laid back and quiet. Such places are hard to find now a days. It isn’t our first time there and it was the pleasant experiences which led to me writing this review. Nothing special to the setting of the place but it makes you feel as if you have returned to kampong days. There’s aircon and non-aircon seating area. Depending on individual preference, we prefer the non-aircon area. The restaurant is pretty spacious, an ideal place for families with kids. Sambal Petai with Prawns The Sambal Petai with prawns is cooked together with ikan bills and onion. The ikan bills add the crunch and with the spiciness of the Sambal, it leaves us satisfied and craving for more. A good dish to go with rice. For those that do not know about Petai. It is also known as 臭豆 (smelly bean) in Chinese as it has this
